Collinson, Peter (1694-1768)

English merchant and naturalist.

When Franklin and others set up their subscription library in Philadelphia, they consulted Collinson.

Sent Franklin information about European experiments with electricity (1745). The two maintained a correspondence, both friendly and scientific, until Collinson’s death.

Born in Windermere, England. Married in 1724 to Mary Bushell; one son (Michael, who also wrote to Franklin) and one daughter.
