John Foxcroft’s secretary.

Relative and protégé of Francis Dashwood, Baron Le Despencer, postmaster general (1766-81). Appointed secretary to John Foxcroft, Deputy Postmaster General for North America (1775). Imprisoned with Foxcroft in Philadelphia for failing to swear allegiance to the U.S. government (1776). Paroled, then exchanged; spent remainder of war in New York. Returned to England (1781). Appointed deputy postmaster general of Jamaica (1782).

Married Ann Ludlow (1779). Died in Jamaica.
