Leverett, John (1728-1777)

Boston merchant.

Bookseller, stationer, and binder, in association with his brother Thomas. They also issued a few publications over their own imprint. Militia officer (1758); eventually rose to the rank of colonel. Justice of the peace (1762) and overseer of the poor. Warehouse destroyed by British troops during Revolutionary War. Subsequently moved to Middletown, Connecticut, where he died.

Son of Knight and Abigail (Buttolph) Leverett of Boston; grandson of bookseller Nicholas Buttolph. Married Mary Greenleaf (1757); five children.
