Gordon, William (1728-1807)

Clergyman and author.

Began his nonconformist ministry in England (1752). Moved to America and settled near Roxbury, Massachusetts (1770).

Returned to England (1786). Published his History of the Rise, Progress, and Establishment of the Independence of the United States of America (1788). It remained prominent among accounts of the Revolution well into the 19th century.

Born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England. Married Elizabeth Fields.
