Dana, Francis M. (1743-1811)

Diplomat and jurist.

Selected to Continental Congress (1776). Sent with John Adams to France as secretary to a delegation to negotiate peace with England (1779).

When thoughts of peace were discovered to be premature, Dana was sent to Russia as an emissary to the court of Catherine in St. Petersburg.

Born in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Married in 1773 to Elizabeth Ellery.
