Dalton, Tristram (1738-1817)

Massachusetts merchant and politician.

Sought Franklin's assistance in obtaining reparations from the French government for the sinking of the brig Fair Play, of which he was a partial owner.

Member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, served briefly as a United States senator (1789). Later held a variety of public positions, including director of the United States Bank.

Born in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Married Ruth Hooper (1758).
