Du Buc, Jean-Baptiste (1717-c. 1795)

Intendant général des colonies.

President of the Martinique chamber of commerce (1759); chosen to represent the colony in Paris (1761). Had a lengthy public career in Paris as premier commis for the marine ministry, principal banker for the island of Martinique, and eventually intendant général. Wrote several pamphlets on colonial affairs. Visited Martinique to settle his affairs (1786-89).
