Hope, Henry (b. c. 1740)

Amsterdam banker and merchant.

Scion of a leading Scottish mercantile house based in Amsterdam. Entertained Franklin and Sir John Pringle in Amsterdam (1766). Close friend and political ally of the Prince of Orange. Moved to England during the French occupation of Holland (1794).

Born in Boston. Married P. B. Vander Hoeven; three sons.
