Montgomery, William (1736-1816)

Militia officer during the American Revolution.

Later played a prominent role in the settlement and politics of what is now central Pennsylvania, where he founded the borough of Danville (1792).

Supported the abolition of slavery, served as a judge. Elected in 1784 to Congress, where he served for less than a year.

Born in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Married Margaret Nivin; had issue. Married Isabella Evans; had issue.
