Christian VII, King of Denmark (1749-1808)

King of Denmark and Norway (1766- 1808).

Toured England and met Franklin (1768). Feeble-minded and mentally unstable. During his reign, the Danish government was dominated first by Count Johann Friedrich Struensee, then by other ministers, and finally by Christian’s son Frederick VI, who became regent in 1784.

Son of Frederick V and Louisa of Denmark; cousin of George III of England. Married his cousin Princess Caroline Matilda of England in 1766; had issue. Divorced (1772).
