Pitt, Thomas (1737-1793)

Brought up largely by his uncles William Pitt, Earl of Chatham, and Richard Lyttleton. M.P. for Old Sarum (1761-68, 1774-84) and Okehampton (1768-74). Allied himself with George Grenville, a relative by marriage; became less active in Parliament after Grenville’s death in 1770. Attacked Lord North and the creeping influence of the Crown (early 1780s). Twice refused secretaryship of Home Office (1783). Member of Grand Ohio Company (1769).

Son of Thomas and Christian (Lyttleton) Pitt of Boconnoc, Cornwall. Educated at Clare College, Cambridge. Married Anne Wilkinson (1771); two children. Created Baron Camelford (1784).
