Podmaniczky, Baron Joseph (1756-1823)

Hungarian administrator.

Traveled extensively in England, France, and Germany; excerpts from his travel diary appeared in J. W. von Archenholz’s England und Italien (1787). Councillor to the Fiume government (1784). Member of Hungarian royal council (1785-1807). Privy councillor (1807). Austrian representative to Paris (1815). Patron of the arts and sciences; his protégés included the young Franz Liszt.

Son of Joseph and Susanna (Kisfaludn), baron and baroness Podmaniczky.
