Craig, Isaac (1742-1826)

Continental Army officer and western developer.

Immigrated to Philadelphia (1765), where he worked as a carpenter. Lieutenant of marines (1775). Captain (1776), then major (1781), in Continental Army. Commander of Fort Pitt (1780). Formed real estate partnership with Stephen Bayard (1784). Member of American Philosophical Society (1787). Deputy quartermaster general and military storekeeper in Pittsburgh (1791). Led federal troops in putting down the Whiskey Rebellion (1794).

Native of Hillsborough, Ireland. Married Amelia Neville in 1785; five sons.
