Gibson, John

Auditor general.

Elected auditor general by Congress (1776-79). Elected to Board of Treasury (1779-81). Became embroiled in a dispute about the procedures of the Treasury and was not reappointed when the Treasury was reorganized under Robert Morris in 1781.

May have been the Virginia-born John Gibson (1729-1782) who served as mayor of Philadelphia (1771-72).
