Timothy, Peter (c. 1720-1781)

Son of Franklin’s journeyman Lewis Timothee. After his father’s death, he took up his printing office in South Carolina (1741). Franklin appointed him postmaster for South Carolina (1756). Became postmaster for the Southern District of North America (1766).

Involved in state politics. Secretary to the 1776 convention which produced the South Carolina state constitution.

Taken prisoner when the British captured Charleston.
