Heyward, Thomas, Jr. (1746-1809)

Patriot and jurist.

A signer of the Declaration of Independence, Heyward served in the foreign affairs committee of the Continental Congress (1776-78), in the South Carolina militia, and as a circuit judge.

Born in South Carolina. Married in 1773 to Elizabeth Matthews; in 1786 to Susan Savage. Alternate form of the name: Hayward.
