Palfrey, William (1741-1780)

United States consul designate in France.

Boston merchant. Aide-de-camp to Gen. Charles Lee (1775-76) and General George Washington (1776). Paymaster general of the Continental Army (1776-80). Elected to consulship (November 1780); he was also instructed to direct American naval affairs in France and to forward supplies collected there.

Lost at sea en route to France.
