Courtauld, Samuel (1752-1821)

London jeweler.

With his mother, ran the smithing and jewelry shop founded by his father (1777-80). Visited Paris (1782), carrying a letter of introduction to Franklin from Richard Price. Immigrated to Philadelphia, where he became an itinerant merchant.

Son of Samuel and Louisa Perina (Ogier) Courtauld of London; brother of Franklin correspondent George Courtauld. Married Sarah Norris (Wharton) Tallman; three children.
