Rolandeau, Louis-François (1750-1795)

French officer in the American Army.

Entered the régiment de Royal-Vaisseaux (1768). Sergeant of the Regiment of Port-au- Prince (1773-76).

Lieutenant of a corps of artillery at Boston. Lieutenant of the 5th Regiment of South Carolina at Charleston.

Returned to France without securing leave. Under the protection of the comte d’Ossun, wrote to Franklin to request a certificate and funds to pay for his trip back to America (1777). Captured on his way back, escaped, and returned to France, where he persuaded two of his brothers to join the American Army.

Served in the gardes du corps du comte d’Artois (1779). Named lieutenant of the 55th Regiment of Infantry (1792).

Born in Rouen.
