Pigott, Robert (1736-1794)

Proponent of dietary reform.

Sold his estates in England and moved to the continent (1776). Made his residence most often in Geneva, where he met Benjamin Franklin Bache. His letters to Franklin described the boy’s poor health, and precipitated Benjamin Franklin Bache’s return to Paris.

A vegetarian, Piggott also led crusades against bread and hats.

Born in Chetwynd Park, Shropshire, England.
