Lafayette’s aide-de-camp.

Ensign in French army (1761). Lieutenant (1776), captain (1778), then major (1780) in the Viennois regiment, as well as lieutenant- colonel in the Continental Army (1778). Served throughout the Revolutionary War except for a brief leave (1779-80), which he spent in France. Chevalier de Saint-Louis (1780). Colonel of the Martinique regiment (1782). Governor of Saint Lucia (1789-92). Killed while commanding a corps of royalist émigrés in Martinique.

Son of Pierre and Marguerite-Joseph (Bataillet-Rique) de Gimat de Compagnet.
