Member of the Pennsylvania Assembly (1776, 1779). Wounded at the battle of Germantown while commanding a cavalry unit. Commissioned by Congress to purchase supplies for the army (1778).

Lieutenant of Berks County (1781). Appointed a judge in the Court of Common Pleas (1784). County Brigade Inspector (1793- 1813).

Moved to Virginia (1816).

Born in the kingdom of Hanover. Came to America as a child; his family settled in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
