Samson, Simeon

American naval captain.

Served in the navy in the Seven Years’ War. Recommended by John Adams for a naval command (November 1775). Supervised construction of armed brigs for Massachusetts naval service (April 1776). Commanded the Independence (July 1776); ranked second in Massachusetts naval command. Captured by the British and imprisoned (February 1777); exchanged and returned to Boston (July 1777). Captain of the Massachusetts brig Hazard (1777). Captain of the Mercury (1779).

Resided in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
