Coxe, Tench (1755-1824)

Merchant, economist.

A Loyalist early in the Revolution, Coxe had, by 1788, earned enough trust to be elected a delegate to Congress. Assistant secretary of the treasury (1789-92). Commissioner of the Revenue (1792-97). An early proponent of American manufacturing.

Born in Philadelphia. Married to Catherine McCall; married to Rebecca Coxe.
