Timothée, Louis (d. 1738)

Journeyman and printer.

Native of Holland. Migrated with his family to Philadelphia (1731). Advertised himself as a teacher of French. Franklin employed him as a journeyman and editor (1732).

Translator for the Philadelphische Zeitung, Franklin’s first German newspaper. The first librarian of the Library Company of Philadelphia (1732-33).

Left Philadelphia to run a printing office in Charleston, South Carolina (November 1733). Printer of the South Carolina Gazette.
