Paddack, Seth (b. c. 1741)

Sailor.

One of Franklin’s relatives from Nantucket. Served as a naval officer during the French and Indian War and then became a merchant captain. Master of the Yarmouth (1769).

His ship, the Duke of Cumberland, was lost off the Scilly Islands on a voyage from New England (September 1773).

Sought Franklin’s help in obtaining a commission after his plans for a Mediterranean cruise aboard a privateer with Captain Thomas Bell fell through (August 1777).
