Merchant of Northampton County, Virginia.

Traveled to Europe on business; studied salt-making in France and Portugal. In late 1777, traveled to Bordeaux and sought a passage to Virginia, fearing that his estate might be confiscated if he remained abroad. Returned to Virginia by early 1779.

Probably a son of John Harmanson, a magistrate and member of the House of Burgesses.
