Whitefoord, Caleb (1734-1810)

Wine merchant, political satirist, and diplomat.

Became an intimate friend of Franklin, his Craven Street neighbor. Sent by Lord Shelburne to France in 1782 to aid in the negotiation of peace between the United States and Great Britain. Fellow of The Royal Society (1784).

Born in Edinburgh. Married in 1800 to — Sidney; four children.
