Carroll, Daniel (1730-1796)

Maryland legislator.

Planter, merchant, and land speculator. Member of Maryland Executive Council (1777). State senator (1781). Delegate to Continental Congress (1781-83). Delegate to Constitutional Convention (1787). Led Maryland press campaign in favor of ratification. U.S. Congressman (1789-91). Commissioner for the District of Columbia (1791-95).

Son of Daniel and Eleanor (Darnall) Carroll of Maryland. Catholic; educated at St. Omer’s College in Flanders. Married his cousin Eleanor (or Elizabeth) Carroll (1752); two children.
