Jones, Edward Jackson

Apparently a relative of Franklin’s Philadelphia friend Thomas Cadwalader.

On a mercantile venture to Bordeaux in 1778, Jones’ ship and his property on board were confiscated by the British. Unable to obtain a settlement from the British through litigation, Jones arrived in Paris, where he asked Franklin for a loan to enable him to secure transportation to Bordeaux and from there back to America (1780).
