D’Oyly, Christopher (c. 1717-1795)

Member of Parliament.

Practiced law (1744-54). First clerk in the War Office (1761-62); deputy secretary (1763-72). Under-secretary of state for the colonies (1776-78). Commissary general of musters (1776-80). M.P. for Wareham (1774-80) and Seaford (1780-84).

Son of Christopher and Susanna D’Oyly of Banbury, Oxfordshire. Educated at the Inner Temple. Married Sarah Stanley, sister-in-law of Welbore Ellis, his immediate superior at the War Office (1765).
