Arrived in Philadelphia with M. Vaillant, a family connection, bringing Franklin letters from Dumas (autumn 1775). Studied English and went into business with Vaillant. Went to Montreal with Fleury Mesplet, printer for the Americans (March 1776). Arrived just as the retreat began; briefly imprisoned. Translated Common Sense.
