Daubenton, Edmé-Louis (1732-1785)

Employed in the collections of the Jardin du roi. Began to publish a series of colored engravings of birds by François-Nicolas Martinet, designed to illustrate Buffon’s Histoire naturelle des oiseaux (1765).

Sent Franklin some of the fascicles containing these illustrations for Franklin’s copy of the Histoire … (1773). Forwarded to Franklin, Buffon’s memoir concerning the conservation of birds and of other objects, and communicated Buffon’s request for specimens from Pennsylvania.
