Carpenter.

Member of the Pennsylvania Assembly (1761-63, 1770-74). Delegate to the First Continental Congress of 1774. Mayor of Philadelphia (1774).

Supervised construction of Franklin’s house (1764-65). Involved with the Pennsylvania Hospital and the Library Company.

Born in Philadelphia. Married in 1737 to Elizabeth Chandler; three children.
