Williamos, Charles (d. 1785)

Officer in the British army during the French and Indian War (1768-72). Collector of customs in Jamaica.

Wrote Franklin from Paris to request passports for America, where he owned several tracts of land (1783).

Returned to France in 1784 and was for a time on intimate terms with Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson eventually ended the friendship, perhaps because he suspected Williamos of espionage.

Born in Switzerland.
