Son of Thomas Gordon, a Scottish merchant of Philadelphia, and stepbrother of the portrait painter Henry Benbridge. Served as a clerk on the sloop Vulture. When taken ill in Portsmouth, England, Gordon appealed to Franklin for a loan (1758). Franklin sent him £10 and Thomas Gordon later thanked him for his kindness. Died in Lisbon, probably before 1769.
