Saunders, William (1743-1817)

Prominent London physician.

Unsuccessfully sought an appointment as physician to the London Hospital (1768). Licentiate of the College of Physicians (1769); fellow (1790). Physician to Guy’s Hospital (1770-1802). Lectured on chemistry, physics, and medicine.

Author of A Treatise on the Structure, Economy, and Diseases of the Liver (1792) and several other medical works. Fellow of the Royal Society (1793). Physician to the Prince Regent (1807).

Son of James Saudners of Banff, Scotland. Educated at Edinburgh (M.D. 1765). Married; had issue.
