Le Mire, Noël

Engraver.

Lafayette commissioned him to engrave a full-length portrait of Washington, painted by Jean-Baptiste Le Paon (1780).

Franklin was consulted for the work. The engraving portrayed Washington holding papers relative to the history of America.

It was sold with a French key, or translation of the titles of the fourteen papers (treaties, bills, maps, and notes) depicted in the engraving.
