Capitaine de Chesnoy, Michel (1746-1804)

Lafayette’s aide-de-camp.

Promoted by Congress to the rank of major (1778). Returned to France with Lafayette (1778). Appointed capitaine à la suite du régiment de dragons du Roi by Louis XVI (1779). Returned to the United States (1780), where he served under Lafayette again and participated in the siege at Yorktown. Honorably discharged (1783).

Founding member of the Société de Cincinnatus.

Born in Mézières, Ardennes.
