Blake, Francis (1708-1780)

Mathematician and scientist.

Supported the government in the uprising of 1745. Fellow of the Royal Society (1746). Devoted much of his time to mathematics and mechanics; published essays in the Royal Society’s Philosophical Transactions. Created a baronet (1774).

Of Irish extraction. Son of Robert and Sarah (Knight) Blake of Durham County, England. Married Isabel Ayton and had issue.
