Accused of nepotism and of being the power behind the throne in the East India Company. M.P. for Arundel (1771-74). Lost fortune and public prominence with Colebrooke’s bankruptcy.

Son of Archibald and Grizel (Gordon) Stewart of Edinburgh. Never married.
