Hubbard, Thomas (1702-1773)

Boston merchant and legislator.

Kept a brazier’s shop. Invested in frontier lands. Deacon and treasurer of Old South Church. Served on numerous town committees to overseer schools and the poor. Moderator of town meeting. Justice of the peace (1739). Elected to General Court (1746); Speaker (1750-59). Elected to Massachusetts Council (1759). Commissary general of Massachusetts militia (1759-71). Treasurer of Harvard College. Also active in missionary and charitable societies.

Son of Joseph and Thankfull (Brown) Hubbard of Boston. Educated at Harvard (B.A. 1721). Married Mary Jackson (1724); had issue.
