Ivernois, François d’ (1757-1842)

Swiss economist and politician.

Liberal, but strongly opposed the French Revolution. Emigrated from Geneva to England. Condemned to death by a revolutionary tribunal (1794) and debarred from French citizenship (1798). Knighted by George III; undertook diplomatic missions on his behalf.

Returned to Geneva (1814), where he helped write the new constitution. Published numerous works on European politics, particularly the French and Genevan Revolutions.
