Lafayette, Marie-Adrienne-Françoise de Noailles, marquise de (1759-1807)

Daughter of Jean-Louis-Paul-François, duc d’Ayen and duc de Noailles.

Frequently played host to various friends of America in Paris. Basked in the glories and partook in the tribulations of her husband’s public life.

Lost her mother and sister to the guillotine and barely escaped her own execution (1794). After a failed attempt to have her husband released from an Austrian prison, she shared his prison cell in Olmuts (1795-97).

Born in Paris. Married in 1774 to Marie- Joseph-Paul-Yves-Roche-Gilbert du Motier, the marquis de Lafayette; four children: Henriette, Anastasie, Virginie, and George Washington.
