Monet, Jean-Antoine, comte de (1703-1795)

French army officer and diplomat.

Began his career as a Jesuit; studied law at Turin. Joined the Polish army (1745); rose to the rank of general. Tutored Prince Czartoryski of Poland and accompanied him on the grand tour of Europe. Joined the French diplomatic service (1755) and secret diplomatic corps (1763). Ennobled by Louis xvi.
