Sargeant, William Hill (b. c. 1753)

Privateer captain.

Initially served on a small Virginia trading vessel. Commander of the Dispatch (1778). Commander of the Columbia (1781). Commander of the Nancy (1782). Remained in privateer business for some years after the war; later commanded merchant ships.

Likely a Virginia native; also resided in Philadelphia. Acquainted with Thomas Jefferson, for whom he offered to carry letters to Virginia (1786).
